Quality of art has always been about renewal and change. Technical perfection alone has never been enough. He who holds on to the familiar and remains in the same places and positions, runs the risk of stiffening. And in a rather cold place. Art must also travel..., travel to nonexistent places – that is the original definition of the concept of utopia .

And when I say art, I mean the kind of art, which is all about construction of new realities, about the artistic experiment in thought and material, about development and rejection of ideas, about artistic shipwrecks and about the few great moments. Along the lines of science.

Gerald Bast
Rector of Universität
für Angewandte Kunst i Wien.
